“Alang the Road”: Heritage trail
St James’ Heritage and Environment Group have produced a heritage guide to the route taken by the race-goers in the song Blaydon Races”. The trail starts in the city centre where you can still see several of the places mentioned in the song, travels along the Scotswood Road, and finally over the water to Blaydon to the sites where the Races actually took place.
